hi all! I'm looking among the zone users for any heart warming, amazing, soppy, or plain crazy stories about horses. The only restriction is that they must be true stories. I will start off with one on my next post to get you going
soppy story number1! I was feeling rather lost after my hacking horse had died suddenly from colic. A friend of mine suggested I tried riding a mare who came with the recommendation that, "she is very comfortable when she trots." What a recommendation! anyway, I rode this mare for one lesson, and she was slow, really slow. She would plod round the track, suddenly realise the other horses were way ahead of her, then trot to catch up, only to slow down ato a shambling walk again. I kept her going at a sensable pace, sort of, and we got through the lesson. Now I don't know what I did, but when I was gathering up the reigns in my hand prior to leading this mare back to her stable, I felt a pressure on my shoulder. Thinking it was someone resting their hand on my shoulder, I tyrned to find the mare had rested her head on my shoulder. She wanted to make friends! That's a true story! Bianca, that's the mare, and I were good friends ever afterwards. She would come to me for a hug, and never a lesson went by when she didin't ask for a hug. We'd spend hours just standing together, her head resting on my shoudler and me stroking her muzzle and massaging her ears. I don't know what ppl will think here, but I can truelly say I lov Bianca. She's gone to another home now, got bored at her work so I was told. Bianca's one intellegent mare.
Awww!
That was arealy pretty story.
I have rode horses, byt not offten.
Keep up the ridin'!

ok, here's another1! Again true. I was training an Irish draft mare who went by the name of Fleur. She was very young, but owing to her breeding, very large. She was also, in the words of the owner of the riding stable, as thick as2short planks. Fleur looked fantastic, having a steel grey body, white head, mane and tail and huge black hooves, but what there was between her ears I can't say. Fleur might have thought deeply about things like Bianca did, but I'm sure those things weren't anything2do with the work she was meant2be doing.1 day, Fleur and I were plodding round the indoor school, the lesson had degenerated in2a general chat. This meant the instructor chatting to my friend while she rode her horse while Fleur and I plodded round aimlessly. Now I'm into Karioke, and because I can't see the words, I need to learn the songs, and I take every oppotunity2refresh my memory, yes, even if it's rehersing quietly while riding a horse. Now Fleur had that day been upset by the instructor yelling at her when there was no reason to be yelled at, and the poor mare was in a state. while we were plodding round, I could feel Fleur slowing down from a slow walk, to almost imobility. the instructor said Fleur was almost asleep. I jokingly said it was my singing that had sent her to sleep, and, as a test, when I dismounted, I hugged Fleur and whispered into her ear a few words of the song I'd been singing. Fleur's reaction was instant. She hugged me so fiercely, pressing her muzzle into my coat that there was no doubt. Fleur might have lacked the ability2concentrate4more than a few seconds on1thing,, but she had a taste in music. I think I might have soothed a stressed horse that day.
